Every Monday morning, Hello Rainbow transforms into a cosy, creative space for little ones and their grown-ups to explore, play, and connect. Our Play Café is inspired by the gentle, child-led philosophies of Montessori and Waldorf, where every toy, activity, and moment is designed to nurture curiosity, imagination, and a love of learning.

With the kettle on, cushions scattered, and shelves stocked with beautiful, purposeful playthings, the Play Café is as much a place for adults to relax and chat as it is for children to discover and grow.

We believe play is not just “fun” — it’s the foundation for lifelong learning, confidence, and creativity. Drawing from Montessori and Waldorf principles, our Play Café is:

• Child-led – Children are free to explore activities at their own pace, fostering independence and decision-making.
• Sensory-rich – Natural materials, textures, and colours invite open-ended exploration.
• Screen-free – Encouraging present-moment engagement with toys, people, and the world around them.
• Community-centred – A space where families connect, share ideas, and support each other.

Our carefully chosen toys and resources are:

• Open-ended – items that can be used in many ways, encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
   
• Made from natural materials – wood, wool, and cotton for a warm, tactile feel.
   
• Developmentally supportive – promoting fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and sensory awareness.
   
• Imaginatively engaging – inviting storytelling, role-play, and social interaction.
   

Rather than overstimulating children with bright lights and noise, our space offers calm, beauty, and breathing room — where their imagination can truly flourish.

Play Café runs every Monday from 10am – 1pm at hello rainbow in Seaford.  Find directions on our How to Find Us page.  Come for the whole morning or drop in when you can — there’s always tea brewing, toys ready to explore, and a warm welcome waiting.
